(Atlantic) It’s Fire Prevention Week, and the theme this year is all about staying safe with rechargeable batteries. Atlantic Fire Department Captain Paul Wood says the theme this year is “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”
Wood says the focus is on educating the public about charging lithium-ion batteries in the home. This includes everyday devices such as cell phones, e-scooters, and other battery-powered electronics.
Members of the Atlantic Fire Department will educate preschool and early learning students on fire safety.
Captain Wood says they are unveiling a new toy truck featuring Sparky. Wood says Sparky will be a little more active this year.
This year’s campaign focuses on three key safety points: Buy only devices certified by a national testing lab. Charge safely-no cheap cables, no soft surfaces, no overcharging, and dispose responsibly-never toss batteries in the trash; use a proper recycling location.
