(Des Moines, IA) — Former Des Moines Public Schools superintendent Ian Roberts is charged with federal firearms crimes. He was arraigned in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa this week on a charge of “being an illegal alien in possession of firearms.” Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers found a loaded 9-millimeter Glock pistol in a towel inside Roberts’ Jeep on September 26, along with a loaded pistol, a loaded rifle, and a shotgun inside his home the same day. Roberts had authorization to work in the U.S. from December 2018 to December 2020, but has not had authorization since then. He has applied for permanent residence several times, but all of his requests have been denied.
