(Griswold, IA) — In a Non-Conference battle of the Tigers, Woodbine withstood a furious rally to fend of Griswold in 4 sets.
Woodbine won 25-12, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-17. The first set was tied 10-10 but after a sideout, Hannah Wendt won 6 straight points to build a 17-10 lead and Woodbine scored the final 7 points to win 25-12.
Woodbine scored the first 7 points of the 2nd set but Karly Byers serve for Griswold tied it at 18-18. Three straight sideouts but Woodbine got a point to lead 22-21 and Riley Gaytan served out the set to take a 2-0 set lead in the match.
Griswold came back and scored 5 points on Kate Tischer’s serve to lead 7-3. With the set tied 13-13, Griswold scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 23-15 lead and finished off the third set.
Griswold took a 7-2 lead in set four but Woodbine answered back. Griswold led 10-8 and 13-10 but Woodbine got a sideout and 2 points to tie it 13-13. With the score at 15-15, Kate Barry got the serve and rattled off 4 straight points highlighted by back to back kills from Vanessa Blum to lead 19-15. Reese Leader’s ace finished the match for Woodbine.
