(Avoca, IA) — Class A District 7 is loaded with talent and either AHSTW or Mount Ayr will suffer another loss in the District this week as they tangle in Mount Ayr.
The Vikings are coming off a 49-12 win over Southwest Valley — Senior Drew Lee led the way with 12 carries for 205 yards and 4 TD. Head Coach Davis Pattee liked how the running attack took over the game
Lee had some big plays; Mount Ayr can produce big plays; while turnovers are always a key to every football game, getting big plays and limiting big plays can be a key as well. Pattee says that’s the nature of high school football
On defense, AHSTW has gotten some big plays in terms of tackles for a loss — 44 in total. Roman Scheffler leads with 7; Jackson Jensen has 5; Sam Sturm has 5; Drew Lee 4.5; Cash Freeman 3
Mount Ayr is coming off a 64-6 win over Central Decatur; they played AC/GC, Pleasantville and Riverside. The Raiders do want a third loss in the district so Pattee expects them to play tough
Mount Ayr has 1310 yards rushing and only 310 yards passing. They have a lot of different guys who can run the football — Junior Dyson Thompson is at 355 yards; Senior QB Jackson Ruggles is at 347; Senior Tate Dugan 271; Junior Adler Reed 229. Pattee says they used to spread the field but lately they have also used some of AC/GC’s option running attack
Right now AC/GC and Riverside are undefeated in district play, AHSTW has one loss and Mount Ayr two with Nodaway Valley, Southwest Valley and Central Decatur bringing up the rear. Pattee knows they can send a knock out punch to the Raiders and the Vikings can get back in the district title hunt
3-2 AHSTW visits 2-3 Mount Ayr
