(Denison, IA) — The Harlan girls cross country team have certainly hit their stride this season. The Cyclones won their 5th meet on the season and 2nd in a row winning in Denison on Tuesday night, finishing with 32 points ahead of Tri Center with 65. Ridge View was 3rd with 78, CBAL 4th with 107 and the Monarchs 5th at 136.
The Cyclones had three runners in the top 10 and took the top two spots — Sophomore Ashlyn Rau (20:09.08) won and finished about a full minute ahead of teammate Freshman Julia Heslink (21:08.04). Sophomore Aspen Bieker finished in 9th (23:23.83) and Junior Ava Freund was 12th (23:31.11).
Tri Center was led by Reese Dittmer in 6th place (23:09.27) and Jillian Budge was 8th (23:22.14). Jordyn Robbins of Logan Magnolia was 10th; Isabelle Blume had the best finish for D-S in 14th; Lauryn Muff of Boyer Valley was 48th.
On the boys side, Sophomore Haven Weers was 3rd on Saturday at Harlan but he won on the Denison Schleswig course at 17:07.90. Senior Joel Ramirez Parra of Storm Lake was about 21 and a half seconds behind in 2nd place. Sophomore Aiden Summerfield of Woodbine finished 3rd; Junior Jeffrey Gross of Harlan was 4th; and Freshman Landon Thayer of Logan Magnolia 5th.
