(Iowa City, IA) — The Iowa Hawkeye football team is at a crossroads as it hosts #11 Indiana on Saturday in their Homecoming game. Head Coach Kirk Ferentz was asked at his weekly press conference how do you beat a ranked opponent when you have lost 10 in a row to ranked teams and he said score more points than the Hoosiers. Iowa needs a win to propel them this season that has started somewhat inauspiciously. Ferentz does say he has seen progress from QB Mark Gronowski and the passing game
Curt Cignetti is in his 2nd season at Indiana and has made a huge impact in the Hoosiers program and the Big Ten. Iowa has won 4 straight against Indiana and 8 of the last 9; the last time the Hoosiers won against the Hawkeyes was 2012 but two teams have not played since 2021. Ferentz is impressed with what Cignetti has done since coming over from James Madison
Indiana’s offense has been explosive says Ferentz and Fernando Mendoza — a transfer from Cal — and Ferentz says he might be the best QB in the country
Indiana beat Illinois 63-10 last week but Ferentz says he expects this one to be a close game. The Hoosiers have a bye next week and then go to Oregon. Will they overlook the Hawkeyes? Ferentz knows to win in the Big Ten means to win the close games
Iowa hosts Indiana in their Homecoming game, kickoff 2:35, it will be televised on the Peacock Network.
