(Exira, IA) — It was a successful Homecoming for Exira EHK on Friday night as the Spartans rolled past Griswold 70-32 in a 8 Man, District 9 match up.
The Hill was alive with points as the Spartans built a 30-0 lead on a 14 yard TD run by Allen Olson and then Exira EHK recovered a muff on the kickoff and Josten Kilworth found Bryce Brabham for a 23 yard TD pass to make it 14-0. Brabham added a 14 yard TD, Olsen ran one in from 6 yards to make it 30-0 with 2:31 left in the first quarter.
Griswold finally broke through as Alex Rasmussen busted a 46 yard TD run but the Spartans answered quickly as Kilworth picked up the football on a bounce and returned it 56 yards for another score to make it 38-6.
The scores kept coming in a 48 minute first quarter as Dain Laverty broke a 50 yard TD run for the Tigers and after Brayden Beck got an interception, Colton Frieze ran it in from 14 yards out to cut the lead to 38-18.
That’s as close as Griswold got as Brabham had two more TD runs of 3 and 15 and Olson got his third TD run this time from 4 yards and Exira EHK made it running clock with a 62-18 lead at the half.
The Spartans Jack Hansen got a 24 yard TD run in the third quarter to make it 70-18. Shortly thereafter, Laverty — the starting QB for Griswold — went down with a leg injury, left the game and did not return. His replacement was Wyatt Silk who got TD runs of 5 and 24 late to add more points but it was too little too late.
