(Des Moines) Iowa drivers are seeing slightly higher fuel prices this week, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report.
The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa rose 3 cents from last week, now sitting at $2.97 per gallon. That price is unchanged from one year ago. Nationally, the average price is higher at $3.20 per gallon, up a penny from last week.
Retail diesel prices in Iowa fell 3 cents to an average of $3.51 per gallon. That’s 17 cents higher than a year ago, but still 20 cents below the current national average of $3.71.
Global crude oil prices posted modest increases. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 9 cents to $64.12 per barrel, while Brent crude climbed 31 cents to $68.05 per barrel. Both benchmarks remain well below last year’s levels, when WTI sold for $72.16 and Brent for $74.55.
Natural gas prices increased 7 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site, bringing the cost to $3.11 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will begin reporting retail heating oil and propane prices in October.
