(Des Moines, IA) — John Deere will lay off nearly 150 workers throughout Iowa next month.
The company announced this week that 40 employees at the Des Moines Works facility will be laid off on October 31st. An additional 101 employees at the Waterloo Operations will also be affected by the job losses, with their last day scheduled for October 17th. The Waterloo operations affected by the workforce reductions include: Tractor Operations, Drive Train Operations, Drive Train West, and Engine Works.
Company officials are blaming decreased demand and lower order volumes for layoffs. Employees will receive unemployment payments and will also be able to keep their healthcare benefits for at least six months.
