(Des Moines) The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) has awarded more than $1.3 million to expand homelessness prevention efforts across all 99 counties in Iowa.
The funding, distributed through the new Iowa Homelessness Prevention Fund (IHPF), will support hundreds of Iowans at risk of losing housing. It builds on the success of IFA’s Rapid Rehousing Pilot Program, with a renewed focus on prevention.
Here in southwest Iowa, Crisis Intervention & Advocacy Center (serving the counties of Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, Page, Guthrie, Dallas, Adair, Madison, Adams, Union, Clarke, Taylor, Ringgold, and Decatur), was awarded $145,600; and Heartland Family Service in Pottawattamie County was awarded $65,000.
The IHPF provides flexible, community-driven support such as short-term financial assistance, landlord mediation, housing navigation services, and case management. Unlike traditional HUD-funded programs, it also helps individuals who are “couch-surfing” or doubled-up in housing — a common issue in rural areas and among youth.
