(Guthrie Center, IA) — At Tuesday’s Guthrie County Supervisors meeting, County Conservation Director Brad Halterman gave a regular update and talked about the status of the Raccoon River Valley Trail project. The county is in the process of raising $4.8 million to repair and refurbish the trail which is 89 miles and travels through the eastern part of Guthrie County. Halterman says they are in the process of applying for a number of grants to raise more money
Halterman is also working on a tap set aside grant through the DOT that includes state and federal moneys and are asking for $2 million, saying its go big or go home time.
Halterman says that the trail has gotten a lot of use this summer
Halterman and Supervisor Chair Maggie Armstrong will make a presentation about the trail at the Des Moines Partnership Economic Summit on Wednesday.
