(Griswold) The Griswold School District’s open enrollment trend has been a topic of discussion for some time; however, it appears that the trend is improving.
Griswold Shared Superintendent Dave Henrichs says that one year ago, 70 students had open-enrolled out of the district. As of today, the district has 59 students open-enrolled out, which is an improvement of 11 students compared to last school year.
In other news, Henrichs reminded the board that the deadline to file papers with the superintendent’s office to run for the school board is Thursday, September 18, at 5:00 p.m. He says four school board members’ terms expire. As of Monday evening, three candidates have filed papers, which leaves one position open for a prospective candidate. Henrichs says of the four positions up for re-election, two are director district seats, and two are at-large. No one has filed papers for the director of District #4. Interested individuals need 10 signatures to qualify for candidacy.
Additionally, Henrichs mentioned a letter from the Iowa High School Athletic Association noting Griswold is in the top half of all districts throughout the state of Iowa that did not have any students or coaches ejected from sporting activities during the 2024-2025 school year.
More good news: Matt Leighton of Leighton Construction announced that the concession construction project is complete and will be open for business at tonight’s VB game.
