(Des Moines) Iowa motorists are seeing a slight uptick at the pump this week. According to AAA, the statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline has risen 10 cents from last week, now averaging $2.94 per gallon. Despite the increase, prices remain 13 cents lower than a year ago. The national average remained steady at $3.19 per gallon.
Diesel prices also edged higher, rising 3 cents to $3.54 per gallon across Iowa. That is 17 cents below the national average of $3.71 and slightly higher than last year’s average of $3.40.
Globally, crude oil prices showed little movement this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude remained unchanged at $64.03 per barrel, while Brent crude rose 10 cents to $67.74. By comparison, one year ago WTI was priced at $66.73 and Brent at $70.34.
In the heating fuel market, natural gas prices fell 3 cents at the Henry Hub, now averaging $3.04 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). Retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa will be updated starting in October.
