(Des Moines) Iowa drivers are seeing a bit more relief at the pump this week. According to AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in the state fell 4 cents to $2.84 per gallon. That’s 25 cents cheaper than a year ago and well below the current national average of $3.51, which ticked up 2 cents from last week.
Diesel prices also eased slightly, dropping 2 cents to $3.51 per gallon statewide. One year ago, Iowa diesel averaged $3.44. Diesel in Iowa is now 19 cents lower than the national average of $3.70.
Global crude oil prices saw mixed movement this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 10 cents to $64.03 per barrel, while Brent crude slipped 17 cents to $67.64. Both remain well below year-ago levels, when WTI traded at $71.28 and Brent at $76.46.
Natural gas prices increased 18 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site, bringing the current price to $3.07 per MMbtu. State officials will resume tracking retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa beginning in October.
