(Shelby Co.) A Hancock man has been arrested in connection with a months-long investigation into illegal tire dumping in Shelby County.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Wesley Fischer was taken into custody by Pottawattamie County deputies on August 30th on Shelby County warrants. The warrants stem from an investigation into numerous tires being dumped along county road ditches.
The Shelby County Roads Department removed the discarded tires, with cleanup and disposal costs totaling approximately $24,000.
Following the investigation, Fischer was charged with Ongoing Criminal Conduct and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.
The Sheriff’s Office says the case involved assistance from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Atlantic Police Department, and others. Officials also thanked the public for their awareness and cooperation.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
