(Pottawattamie Co.) Pottawattamie County Conservation Director Jeff Franco and River Valley Trail Riders member Chris Holbeck provided an update on an Off-Highway Vehicle Park to the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
Franco explained that in 1998, the DNR, the City of Council Bluffs, and a group of volunteers collaborated to establish an off-highway vehicle park for UTVs, motorbikes, and other recreational vehicles along the river. He said the park remained in operation until around 2019, when flooding forced its closure. Since then, the DNR, the City of Council Bluffs, and River Valley Trail Riders have approached the county about forming a partnership to reopen it.

Franco said from a Conservation standpoint they know there is a need for a few recreational activities in the county that they are not supporting.
Franco noted that they are still in the early discussion phase regarding the feasibility of the project and that many details still need to be worked out. Once more details are finalized, if the project moves forward, additional meetings will be held to provide further information.
