(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation designating September as National Preparedness Month.
The proclamation emphasizes that disasters can strike without warning and that government agencies and disaster organizations cannot shoulder the responsibility alone. Instead, preparedness is a shared duty among individuals, families, businesses, and the community.
Pottawattamie County Emergency Management encourages households to create family disaster plans as part of National Preparedness Month, helping to build resilience and ensure readiness for any type of emergency.
Doug Reed, Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Director, told the Supervisors that they have a wide range of preparedness resources available for the community to use, so residents can take advantage of those tools, tips, and tricks.
Doug Reed encourages everyone to attend the 5th Annual Pottawattamie County Preparedness Fair on Thursday, September 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pottawattamie County Emergency Operations Center. This family-friendly event will feature activities, games, and about 20 community organizations involved in disaster relief and recovery efforts sharing information.
