(Oakland, IA) — It could be a deck kind of year for the Riverside cross country team — the goal for every runner is to get on the back deck at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course north of Fort Dodge as one of the top cross country teams in the state. The Boys are currently ranked #4 as they prepare for their opening meet this Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by the Henderson brothers — Dawson and Brody are both Seniors– and Head Coach Alex Oliver says that Dawson is the #1 runner over Brody but its close
Junior Owen Fenner is #3, Junior Cruz Jaquez is #4 and Sophomore Eli Hudnall is #5 and a guy who flies under the radar according to Oliver. Junior James McCready will be at #6 for this experienced team. If Riverside wants to be one of those top three teams that go on the deck, they need to continue to work together to lower their times
The girls only lose one senior from last year and while they are not ranked, Oliver believes they can make some noise on the course this season. Right now there is no clear #1 runner — Oliver says that Senior Bailey Richardson and Sophomore Iviana Schechinger are fighting for that spot
Behind Richardson and Schechinger is Senior Danika Feigenbutz, Senior Brecken Pierce and Senior Adaline Martens and Junior Kaycie Perkins are both out for cross country this season.
Riverside will be at Iowa Western this Saturday hosted by CBAL with CBTJ, Denison Schleswig, Glenwood, Heartland Christian, Missouri Valley, Omaha North, Southeast Polk, St. Albert and Treynor.
