(Des Moines) National Weather Service Meteorologist Dylan Dodson says Iowa experienced slightly below-normal precipitation and slightly cooler-than-average temperatures during August.
Dodson noted that following a wet July, much of southern, south-central, and southwest Iowa — along with a large portion of the state — saw below-average precipitation in August. Rainfall in south and south-central Iowa was two to three inches below normal, while Atlantic and the surrounding areas came in 3.22 inches below normal.
Dodson says the temperature for August, Iowa experienced a warm spell mid-month, with high temperatures reaching the upper 80s and low 90s. However, temperatures fell to average or below average for the entire month.
Dodson says there is a chance of rain on Wednesday, as a cold front moves through the area, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and lows around 40 degrees on Wednesday night.
