(Des Moines, IA) — A new pickup policy is helping to reduce congestion at Des Moines International Airport.
Officials say the recently introduced EZ-Pickup policy went into effect today. It is designed to alleviate congestion at the airport’s front curb by directing drivers to wait in designated stalls within the parking garage. Drivers can wait in the stalls for up to two hours free of charge while waiting for their passengers to arrive.
The latest terminal area forecast for Des Moines International Airport projects that passenger traffic will reach 5 million travelers by 2042. The existing terminal is not designed to handle such a high level of demand. While the Airport Authority has worked diligently to provide a positive passenger experience, the current facilities are unable to support long-term growth.
Key service areas—such as gates, ticketing, security, baggage handling (inbound and outbound), hold rooms, concessions, and restrooms—are all essential to maintaining the quality of service expected by Iowa’s travelers.
A new terminal will address these critical needs, ensuring the airport can meet rising demand while continuing to serve as Iowa’s gateway to the world. The master plan calls for a new terminal (Phase 1A) with expansion capacity through two additional phases (1B and 1C). The Des Moines Airport Authority remains committed to building facilities that provide an exceptional travel experience today and for decades to come.
Details about the construction process are available on the DSM International Airport website.
