(Guthrie Center, Iowa) – The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office is alerting motorists to be on the lookout for dangerous metal objects known as “caltrops” that have been discovered on roads in the Guthrie Center area.
In a social media post on Friday, the Sheriff’s Office reported that local repair shops have been finding the devices lodged in vehicle tires, resulting in numerous flat tires. Some of the caltrops being recovered are more than an inch long.
Authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant to avoid hitting objects and sustaining damage to their vehicles.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about who may be responsible for manufacturing or placing the caltrops to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office at 641-747-2214.
