(Atlantic) The Atlantic football team will return to practice this week in preparation for its week two matchup against Denison. Last Friday night, Glenwood defeated the Trojans 32-7.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer emphasized that the team needs to focus on improving its running game. The Rams managed to hold the Trojans to just 90 rushing yards in the previous game. Ethan McNeal led the Trojans’ ground attack with 13 carries for 49 yards. Landon Hagen contributed with four carries for 26 yards, while Gavin McLaren added seven carries for 23 yards.
Coach Brummer noted that the defensive line performed well collectively. Jack Muller and Donovan Hedrington each recorded three tackles from their positions as defensive tackles. Junior Linebacker Jake Wailes led the team in tackles with six, senior linebacker Colin Rudy recorded five tackles, and defensive end Brock Goodrich had four stops.
Brummer stated that the team needs to bounce back and have a productive week of practice.
Last Friday, Storm Lake defeated Denison-Schleswig 39-13, accumulating 186 rushing yards and 63 passing yards. Cole Kastner led Denison with 14 carries for 91 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Blaine Grady completed 5 of 11 passes for 63 yards. The game against Denison is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. It will be broadcast on 95.7 FM and live-streamed on WesternIowaToday.com, as well as on TV and YouTube. The pregame show will begin at 6:00 p.m.
