(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is offering 23 varieties of native hardwood seedlings for sale this week.
John Lorenzen, who appeared on Saturday’s DNR report on KSOM, announced that the public can begin placing orders for the seedlings starting on Tuesday, September 2. He says the seedlings are available as bare roots and come in bundles of 25. This selection includes eight evergreen species, as well as 15 smaller trees and shrubs, with prices ranging from $1.00 to $1.50 per seedling. Lorenzen noted that the sizes of the seedlings vary by species, with heights ranging from 10 to 30 inches.
Customers can either pick up their trees at the state forest nursery in Ames or choose to have them delivered. Orders placed in the fall will be delivered in April and May.
