(Ames, IA) — The vacation is over for the Iowa St. football team — after beating Kansas St. 24-21 for an exciting win in Ireland, the Cyclones are back home on Saturday to battle South Dakota. Head Coach Matt Campbell says there is still work to be done to define how good his team really is and does not want any letdowns against the Coyotes
Carson Hansen had 16 carries for 71 yards and Campbell says he played elite football especially in the 4th quarter. Rocco Becht was 14-28 passing for 183 yards and 2 TD and threw to six different receivers with nobody getting more than 3 catches. With so many guys and only one football, Campbell says it could be a different guy that steps up at wiedeout each and every week
On defense, Campbell was excited about the play of his linebackers and like the receivers, a lot of guys got a chance to play and Campbell foresees that continuing
About midway through the pre-season, Campbell decided to move Junior Jeremiah Cooper from safety to cornerback and Campbell says the move paid off dividends in the first game of the year
Iowa St. will see a familiar face at quarterback for South Dakota — Aidan Bouman was at Iowa St.as a freshman in 2020 and after two seasons, realized he would not get playing time with the Cyclones so he transferred to USD. Last year he was Honorable Mention All-Conference in the Missouri Valley and directed his team to the FCS semifinals. Campbell has tremendous respect for Bouman and what he has achieved
Iowa St. is 1-0, its the opener for South Dakota, kickoff is at 2:30 pm, Cyclones Pre Game at 12:30 on KSOM.
