(Exira) Exira/EHK hosts East Mills on the Hill tonight in a non-football game. The Spartans look to bounce back after falling short 52-24 to Sidney in a week zero contest.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Drew Buckholdt was impressed with the team’s physicality and no-quit effort. Buckholdt noted a lot of missed opportunities and gave up too many big plays. But for the most part, he liked what his team did defensively.
Coach Buckholdt says this week they are working on playing to the whistle, blocking assignments, and limiting big plays. Next up is East Mills, coming off a win over Griswold, 34-32. Coach Buckholdt is impressed with Jiri Brodigan. The senior had ten tackles last week against Griswold, carried the ball 16 times for 72 yards, and scored two touchdowns. Additionally, Brodigan completed 2-3 passes for 29 yards.
Buckholdt notes that East Mills does a good job of getting their athletes the ball in space, so they will have to be assignment sound, make plays in the open field, and put pressure on the quarterback.
The kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Exira.
