(Exira) A handful of hunting seasons begin soon, and coincidentally, Audubon County is hosting a Hunter Safety course during the first week of September.
Pat Petersen, Chief Instructor for the Audubon County Hunter Safety Course, says the class is designed for hunters aged eleven years and older, as well as anyone born after 1972, to be eligible for an Iowa hunting license.
The class covers essential hunting terms and concepts for both new and experienced hunters. Petersen says the class covers topics such as firearms and equipment, shooting and hunting skills, survival and emergency preparation, ethical and responsible hunting practices, wildlife and species identification, and Iowa laws and hunting regulations. Petersen says that all the topics addressed in this class are essential for the future.
The Hunter Safety Course in Audubon County will be held on Wednesday, September 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, September 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be served on Saturday. The course will be taught at the Audubon Conservation Club in Exira, at 2592 Highway 71.
Meanwhile, the cottontail Rabbit and Squirrel hunting season opens on August 30, and the Dove Season starts on September 1.
