(Guthrie Center, IA) — Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arbor provided a report to the Board of Supervisors and is now going to charge a fee to other counties for medical care of their inmates.
Other counties in Iowa have been sending prisoners to Guthrie County because of lack of space in their own jails and if those inmates need medical attention, Arbor says they will now start charging the counties for those services
Arbor says that mental health services for inmates from out of county will be contracted out of county while Guthrie County inmates will receive medical attention from Labcorp or the Guthrie County Hospital. The Supervisors voted 5-0 to approve the changes.
In other public health news, Arbor says they will be offering EMR classes through DMACC in Guthrie County and will be offering EMT classes in the future. Arbor says its important to note that they are offering a first responder EMS service through public health
Arbor also reports that the public health clinics conducted the last couple of weeks have been tremendously successful.
