(NAFB) The final day of scouting on Pro Farmer’s 33rd Annual Crop Tour took place on Thursday. The resulting numbers were large, but so was the concern. On the Western Leg traversing Western Iowa and Southern Minnesota.
Data Analyst Emily Carolan says the numbers show both a record pod count in Minnesota at 1,247.86 in a three-by-three-foot square, 19.9 percent higher than the three-year average, and a record corn yield at 202.86 bushels, busting the 2010 prediction. While it’s the only State on Tour with over a 200-bushel-per-acre average, she is still worried.
As for the Eastern Leg, longtime Scout Kyle Wendland from Fredericksburg, Iowa, says he witnessed disease pressure.
The final Iowa yield predictions do show records on both crops, with a 198.4 estimate on corn, 6.4 percent higher than the three-year average, and 1,284.3 soybean pods in a three-by-three-foot square, up 5.4 percent from last year. However, that corn yield prediction is some 22 percent less than the USDA’s Iowa projections, which fits with what Wendland saw.
Final National Yield Estimates will be released later today after the commodity markets close.
