(Carroll, IA) — The Hawkeye Ten conference is looking for new members after Lewis Central left this week for the Missouri River Conference and the Western Iowa Conference is in the final stages to bring in Red Oak and Shenandoah. Carroll is one of the schools that has received an invitation to join the H-10 but Athletic Director Randy Bissen says the school is not anywhere near making a decision on leaving the Raccoon River Conference.
Bissen says that the Hawkeye Ten Conference gave Carroll until September 1st to consider the invitation and indicate their intentions. However, that deadline has now been extended, according to Bissen, until October 1. Bissen says they wanted to wait and see what other current H-10 members would do before they even considered a conference move.
There are reports that Carroll will make the move to the Hawkeye Ten Conference but Bissen denies that and says they are only now sending out questionnaires to their coaches and other personnel on whether to join the H-10 or stay in the Raccoon. He says the school board will more than likely talk about the issue at their next meeting in September. Bissen also hopes to get public input into a possible move as well.
With Lewis Central, Red Oak and Shenandoah all on their way out of the Hawkeye Ten, the conference is down to 8 members: Atlantic, Clarinda, Creston, Denison Schleswig, Glenwood, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic and St. Albert. Treynor has also received an invitation to join the H-10.
Carroll is currently in the Raccoon River Conference with ADM, Ballard, Bondurant Farrar, Boone, Carlisle, Gilbert, North Polk and Winterset.
The Western Iowa Conference had said that August 21 would be the possible date that the conference would approve the future membership of Red Oak and Shenandoah although there has been no release as of yet. Both Red Oak and Shenandoah school boards have approved the move to the WIC.
