(Atlantic) There will be a heavy law enforcement presence in Atlantic and rural roadways on Friday, August 22.
The Atlantic Police Department, in partnership with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol, will launch a multi-jurisdictional traffic enforcement effort.
Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue explained that the initiative is supported through an annual grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau. The grant provides funding for vehicle equipment such as radars and in-car cameras, along with overtime pay for officers to conduct traffic enforcement projects. The goal, Hogue said, is to reduce crashes and fatalities on Iowa’s roadways.
The enforcement will focus on seatbelt use, speeding, stop sign violations, impaired driving, and hands-free compliance.
Throughout the day and evening, Cass County residents can expect to see additional officers on patrol making traffic safety stops.
