(Griswold) Griswold schools superintendent Dave Henrichs kicked off Monday’s meeting by recognizing Nigel Horton, Rachel Larsen, and Carrie Harrison. Henrichs says the three Griswold Community School District Educators presented at the 50th Annual School Administrators of Iowa Conference.
Then Henrichs provided the board with the recent legislative changes, besides the cellphone policy, which was not new to the board. Henrich says HF784 Math Counts requires students in kindergarten through sixth grade to have three math screenings per year.
Another legislative change, Senate File 369, deals with a Civics Exam, which does not take effect until the 2026-2027 school year. It requires all students, as part of a graduation requirement, to pass a multiple-choice test based on the U.S. Citizenship exam.
Henrichs says another legislative change is HF316 Career Education.
Henrichs says the final one is HF706, dealing with the school board. He says the law states that within 19 days after being appointed, the entire school board is required to watch a two-hour video on the open meetings law.
