(Anita, IA) — CAM continues its run in the Class 1A baseball playoffs as they host Newell Fonda tonight, coverage on KSOM.
The Cougars beat Ar-We-Va 7-0 in the first round on Saturday behind Makade Paulsen two hit shutout, walking just one and striking out 13. The Cougars pounded 11 singles and gave Paulsen plenty of run support.
CAM is now 17-3 on the season and Head Coach Mick Long says he will start Sophomore Lukas James against Newell Fonda — James is 4-1 with a 3.21 ERA
Newell Fonda is 10-13 and they beat IKM Manning 6-5 in the first round. Long expects they will throw Senior Max Carlson who is 5-5 with a 1.95 ERA — he has 52 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings and opponents are only hitting .176 against him. Carlson threw 58 pitches in relief against the Wolves but is eligible to throw tonight.
Offensively, Newell Fonda is led by Senior Mason Hoberman at .359 and 8th grader Andrew Greenfield is hitting .514 with 2 HR and 14 RBI
If CAM wins this means a trip more than likely to face Coon Rapids Bayard in the district finals but Long doesn’t think the Cougars will look ahead
CAM hosts Newell Fonda, 7 pm first pitch, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM.
