(Atlantic) Sunnyside Pool in Atlantic is in full swing for the summer season, with strong attendance and exciting new features, according to Chelsea Rush, Aquatics Coordinator for the Nishna Valley Family YMCA. The YMCA is once again managing the pool this year.
One of the newest attractions is the “Smash Park” area, offering fun games like bean bag toss, darts, and slam ball. Rush says themed weeks keep things fresh, with the current theme, “Celebrate America,” tying in with Independence Day. Activities include a home run derby and water balloon fights. Starting this Friday, Cass Health will cover all admission fees every Friday in July, offering free swim days on July 4, 11, 18, and 25.
New features for younger swimmers include a pouring station and magnetic waterfall, all made possible through community donations.
The Atlantic Park and Recreation Department also contributed new seating. Adults can look forward to the first-ever “Sip and Dip” event on July 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., sponsored by the YMCA, Shift ATL, and Atlantic Carriers. This adults-only evening is open to those 21 and older.
Sunnyside Pool remains the only public outdoor pool in Cass County, and Rush hopes to see it continue to thrive for years to come.
Additional programming includes “Toddler Time” story sessions hosted by Atlantic Library staff every Tuesday.
Pool hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
