(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team delivered a pair of commanding wins over Red Oak on Thursday, sweeping the doubleheader at home with scores of 12-0 and 21-1.
Coming off an emotional 9-4 victory over Clarinda on Wednesday, Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann admitted he felt some nerves heading into Thursday’s matchup. However, those concerns were quickly put to rest as the Trojans took control early.
In game one, Peyton McLaren was flawless in the circle, throwing a perfect game through four innings before the mercy rule ended the contest. Brynn Lamp followed up with an impressive performance in the nightcap, allowing just one hit and one unearned run. Coach Hinzmann praised his team’s defense, noting they committed only one error in the second game.
Offensively, the Trojans were on fire—racking up 12 hits in the opener and adding 17 more in game two, with several players collecting multiple hits in both games.
Atlantic is scheduled to face Dowling Catholic on Friday and will wrap up the regular season next week.
