(Guthrie Center, IA) — This week, Des Moines Christian announced that it will leave the West Central Activities Conference and join the Little Hawkeye Conference in the 2006-07 school year. Another member of the West Central Van Meter has also been invited to move with DMC. Taylor Morris, Athletic Director of AC/GC a member of the WCAC says the move by the Lions was not a surprise but he doesn’t expect Van Meter to leave
With Des Moines Christian, the West Central has 10 members: Earlham, Interstate 35, Madrid, Ogden, Panorama, Pleasantville, Van Meter, West Central Valley, Woodward Granger and the Chargers. Morris does not see any reason for AC/GC to move and he says he hasn’t heard about anybody else wanting to leave either
One possible scenario would be if Audubon and IKM Manning leave the Western Iowa Conference for the Rolling Valley, AC/GC could be a candidate for the WIC but Morris shot down that possibility saying no discussions have been made to his knowledge. Morris says the Chargers have seen success in the West Central so there is no reason to look elsewhere
Morris says he tries to stay ahead of the realignment possibilities and will always try to be proactive instead of reactive to serve the best interests of AC/GC athletics.
