(Red Oak) Two people suffered injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Red Oak.
The Red Oak Police Department reports that the accident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 34 and North 4th Street. The two drivers injured in the accident are identified as 80-year-old Roberta Jane Waltz, of Red Oak, and 63-year-old Frances Ann Baughman, of Braddyville, Iowa.
According to the report, Waltz, driving a 2012 Ford Fusion northbound on 4th Street, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck broadside by an eastbound 2006 Nissan Xterra, driven by Baughman.
Red Oak firefighters extricated Waltz from her car. Both drivers were transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The Ford Fusion sustained an estimated $10,000 damage, and the 2006 Nissan received $9,000 damage. Authorities cited Waltz for failure to obey a stop sign.
The Red Oak Police Department was assisted by Red Oak Fire and EMS, Red Oak Emergency Management, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
