(Avoca) Last week, the Regional Water Rural Water Association urged all customers served by the Avoca Treatment Plant (ATP) system to immediately reduce water usage, as water towers in the region were nearing dangerously low levels. Regional Water General Manager Tom Kallman’s says water consumption has continued to increase despite last week’s issuing a Level Yellow Drinking Water Advisory.
Audio PlayerKallman says the key to addressing the water shortage is the Minden Pipeline Project, which is slated to be completed by the end of October 2025.
Audio PlayerKallman says many components, such as pumps and motors, were made by companies outsourced to other countries. Kallman says the “Buy America” Act forces agencies to buy products made in America by American Companies.
Audio PlayerKallman says they are scheduled to have the Minden Pipeline Project flowing by the end of October.
In the meantime, Regional Water staff are pumping the maximum amount of water possible and working tirelessly to maintain pressure. Still, they stress customer conservation is the only way to prevent a widespread emergency.
