Nancy Carpenter, 76, of Atlantic
Nancy Kay Carpenter, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Jean (Whitsitt) Willms, was born November 15, 1948, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. Nancy died March 1, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE, at the age of 76 years.
Nancy attended elementary school in Lewis and graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1968. After graduating, she moved to Council Bluffs and worked at Creighton University in the Food Service Department. She lived in several different places before returning to Atlantic in 1989. Nancy worked at Easters and then Econo Foods before retiring as a teacher’s assistant at Pymosa Pre-School, a role she loved dearly.
She was baptized at Elk Horn Baptist Church, where she was a member. Nancy had a passion for music, collecting records, cassette tapes, and CDs, and enjoyed listening to Barbra Streisand and the Bee Gees. She also loved ‘junking’ at thrift stores and cherished spending time with her family.
Nancy is survived by her children: Chris Green of Audubon, IA, Angela Butler and husband Allen of Coon Rapids, IA, Dani Arroyo of Atlantic, IA, Andrea Duran and husband Fernando of Morris, MN; her grandchildren: Jaden, Jersey, Isabella, Zach, Zoey, Katelyn, Alex, Marquies, and Giovani; her great-grandchildren, Mila and Jackson; her brothers, Richard Willms and wife Mary of Griswold, and Ronald and wife Bev of Fremont, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son Andrew Nicholas, her husband Bill, and her parents.
A funeral service for Nancy will be held on Friday, March 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM, at the Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. A time of refreshment with Nancy’s family, will be at the Griswold United Methodist Church, immediately following the funeral service. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
