Mr. Lynn Dorsey, age 88, of Anita, IA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, IA.
On Sunday morning, November 1, 1936, Lynn Dorsey was born to Wilbur and Pearl (Barber) Dorsey at their farm home in Audubon County, 1 1/2 miles east of the tree in the road. Wilbur said this was the only crop he got that year. When Lynn was 2, he moved with his parents 2 1/2 miles north of Anita. He was born on his Great Grandma Nancy Jane Barber’s 90th birthday.
Lynn started school at Grant #2 (Barber) School when he was four. He graduated from Anita High School in 1954. In high school, he enjoyed many activities and, as a senior, drove a school bus on his own route. The night of graduation, Lynn left for the wheat fields of Oklahoma to help harvest. When he returned home, he worked with his dad on the farm. Lynn enjoyed playing saxophone for many dances, playing piano, and calling for square dancing.
1955 Lynn graduated from the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City. He continued farming with his father and auctioned on the side at seven different livestock markets and hundreds of farm, household, and real estate auctions. Lynn loved the auction business. He earned his real estate license and started working for Dement Realty in 1958.
In 1960, Lynn married Doris Wahlert, and together they raised Becky, Sally, and Dan. Lynn and Doris farmed and ran the auction business together.
After Doris’s death, Lynn married Beverly Gress. They later divorced.
Lynn married Carol Kloppenburg Trent in 2001. Together, they raised cattle and enjoyed many dances.
Lynn served on various boards and councils: Cass County Extension, Grant Twp trustee, Crooked Creek Watershed, Cass County Zoning, Iowa Recovery, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He graduated in 2004 as an appraiser with the American Agriculture Society in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Lynn is survived by daughters Becky (Bernard) Vais, Sally (Terry) Kloppenburg, and son Dan Dorsey; step-daughter Lori Erickson and step-son Cody Trent; step-son-in-law Jon Banks; sister Lorane (Roy) Smith; sisters-in-law Darlene Jessen and Lois Kloppenburg; brother-in-law Richard Kloppenburg; grandchildren Curtis and Jesse (Jamie) Vais, Andrew (Sarah), Ryan (Leayn), Kenneth and Starlene Kloppenburg, and Taylor (Josh) Blair and Emma (Nate) Moen; step-grandchildren Adison and Sage Erickson, Lily and Sophia Banks; and great-grandchildren Jacob and MIles Vais, Nathan, Abbigail and Lauren Kloppenburg, Eliza and Samuel Kloppenburg, and Mason and Brogan Blair. In addition, Lynn also leaves behind a very dear friend, Dr. Mike Rosmann, tremendous support, a man Lynn Called his “Older Brother,” though Mike is many years younger.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Pearl; wife Doris Wahlert Dorsey, wife Carol Trent Dorsey; brother Lyle; and step-daughter Dawn Trent Banks.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with Rev. Ted Weishaupt officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral in the community room of the Schmidt Family Funeral Home. After the luncheon, the committal will occur at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.
Public visitation will be held from 5 to 7 on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic.
