Arlo D. Winterboer, 80, of Audubon, Iowa, passed away peacefully to his heavenly, eternal home on January 21, 2025, at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Arlo was born on December 17, 1944, to Lorene and Edward Winterboer in Hartley, Iowa. He graduated from Hartley High School in 1963. Arlo married his devoted wife, Sharon Swenson, in Milford, Iowa, on April 16, 1966, and they shared nearly 59 years of marriage together making their forever home in Audubon, IA for 50 years. Arlo worked for Thermogas in Audubon as plant manager until 1988, after which he transitioned to sales and installation of energy-efficient lighting. He was also a volunteer for the Audubon Fire Department for many years.
Those who know Arlo well could attest to his deep love for fishing, hunting, and sports. He eagerly looked forward to his annual ice fishing trips to Northern Minnesota, a cherished tradition he sadly had to forego when he became ill. With his lifelong pursuits of hunting and fishing he took great pride in the trophy deer and fish he brought home over the years. An avid sports fan, he followed the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings with unwavering loyalty, often calling his children to ask, “What time is the game on? What channel is it on?”
The family would like to extend a thank you to all that helped with Arlo’s transportation to all his appointments, the care staff at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Audubon County Memorial Hospital staff and Every Step Kavanagh Hospice House for providing excellent and loving care to Arlo during his time of need. A special thank you goes to Dirk Rasmussen for his continuous support of Arlo during his illness and to the Audubon Fire Department for their assistance when needed.
Arlo is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter Carrie (Joe) Wilkinson of Center Point, IA; his son Tod Winterboer of Smithville, MO; his son Curt (Julia) Winterboer of Marion, IA; and four grandchildren: Gabrielle, Dane, Hailey and Tyler. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Grace) Winterboer and Ronald (Mary) Winterboer, as well as numerous other family and friends.
