(Audubon) District Champion Audubon hosts District runner-up Woodbine in round two of the eight-player football playoffs. The Wheelers enter the contest 9-0, while Woodbine is 8-1. The Tigers’ only loss is to district champion Remsen-St.Mary’s.
Coach Birks says the Tigers run a balanced offense with 1,908 yards rushing and 1,577 yards passing. Brody Pryor completes 60.3 percent of his passes for 1,342 yards, 27 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Pryor is the second-leading rusher on the squad with 542 yards. Micah Moores leads the team with 598, and Brodie Ludwig has 477.
The Wheelers are coming off a 38-7 first-round win over East Mills. Thanks to a fast start, Coach Birks took advantage of the opportunity to rest his starters. Birks says the goal was to get a win and keep everyone healthy, and they checked both boxes.
The Wheelers offense comes into the second round with 2,403 rushing yards and 672 passing. Aaron Olsen leads the team in rushing with 123 carries for 1007 yards. Carson Wessel, 96 carries for 733. Coach Birks says it starts up front.
The Wheelers’ defense is impressive, allowing opponents an average of 15 points per game. Coach Birks points to the three seniors on the front line and junior Izik Sorensen.
