(Boone, IA) — On Thursday, the Iowa High School Athletic Association reversed course. After announcing in August that they would move boys golf in Classes 3A, 2A, and 1A from the spring to the fall, the IHSAA has decided to keep the sports where they are. The change was to have been in the 2025-26 school year but the IHSAA board tabled the issue for “the foreseeable future.”
In a statement from the IHSAA, “We considered the feedback from our member schools and the board ultimately decided it was worth reconsidering our initial vote,” said board chairperson Dr. Andy Crozier, superintendent at Central Lee. “It became clear that there were too many obstacles that need to be resolved in the short-term to make this change for the 2025-26 school year.”
Class 4A Boys Golf will remain in the fall — it has been played there since 1993.
In August, the IGHSAU also announced the move of girls tennis to the fall — that change remains in effect. Boys tennis is still to be played in the spring.
In addition to moving boys golf back to the spring, the IHSAA announced that the state soccer tournament will only play semifinals and finals at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines. The quarterfinals will be played regionally. Quarterfinals will be played June 2, 2025. Semifinals will be played June 4 and 5 with championship games on June 6.
