(Atlantic) Atlantic took three sets from Exira/EHK on Monday night in a non-conference Volleyball match at Atlantic. The Trojans topped the Spartans 25-15, 25-21, and 25-7.
In set one, Atlantic broke a 12-12 tie, outscored the Spartans 13-2 down the stretch, and took a 1-0 advantage to start the match. The Trojans, clad in their pink-out uniforms in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, carried the momentum into sets two and three. Atlantic Head Coach Alyssa Boltz says the Trojans looked like an entirely new team.
Trojans frontline players Jillian Saathoff, Paytn Harter, Jaci Reed, Iman Dzafic, Adler Bruce, and Olivia Olson had kills for the Trojans, with assists from setters Zoey Kirchhoff and Peyton McLaren.
The Spartans kept it close in the second set behind the hitting of Taryn Petersen and Jaelynn Petersen, with countless assists from setters Riley Miller and Brooklyn Flathers. The set featured eight lead changes and seven ties. The Trojans broke an 18-18 tie, outscoring the visitors 7-3 to secure the 25-21 win.
The Trojans bolted out of the gate to an 11-1 lead in the third and eventual final set, holding the Spartans to seven points, and ended the night with a 25-7 win.
Atlantic ends the regular season at St. Albert on Thursday night and travels to Clarinda on October 22 in a first-round regional game. Exira-EHK will compete in the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday at Paton-Churdan, and opens regional play on Monday, October 21 at home against CAM.
