(Audubon) Audubon and Collins-Maxwell square off in a critical matchup in an 8-player District #9 football game on Friday night. The Wheelers enters the contest at 6-0, and Collins-Maxwell is 4-2 and 3-1 in district play.
Wheelers Head Coach Sean Birks recalls the game late in the season one year ago when the Spartans came out firing on all cylinders.
Coach Birks could tell this team had a bright future with a sophomore and a junior as the primary ball carriers.
This season, those two backs, Josef Dvorak, have rushed for 617 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per carry, and Cooper Wierson with 507 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry.
The Wheelers are battling a few injuries heading into this game with Collins-Maxwell.
Despite the injuries, the Wheelers still rushed for just under 400 yards, even though they gave up more points (28) than they liked.
Wheeler’s rushing attack has been the bread and butter, with 1,703 yards, Aaron Olsen with 711 yards, Carson Wessel (when healthy) with 533, and Mason Kasperbauer with 270. The Spartans have 1,264 rushing yards to 560 passing yards.
The game is at Audubon, with the kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
