(Atlantic) Glenwood scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to break and held off Atlantic for a 7-4 win in a Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball game at Atlantic on Wednesday.
Kayden Andersen belted a solo home run and stroked a 2-RBI double to lead the Rams Offensively. Trent Patton went two for four with 2 RBI. Nolan Clark, Brennan Anderson, and Brit Maxwell added to the cause with base hits.
Hudson McLaren led Atlantic with three hits and 2 RBI. Keston Schmitt went 2-3 with one RBI. Jaice Larson and Collin Harris added singles.
Glenwood grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Kayden Andersen’s Walk and scored on Trent Patton’s RBI single. The Trojan responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Hudson McLaren lined a single and scored on Schmitt’s single. Darrow walked, Harris belted a single, and Schmitt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Darrow and pushing the Trojans to a 2-1 advantage.
Kayden Andersen matched the score with a towering homerun over the left field fence in the third and broke the 2-2 tie in the fourth, scoring two more runs. Maxwell had an RBI single to scoot one of the runners across the plate. The Trojans answered in the bottom half of the fourth with two runs to knot the game at 4-4. Hudson McLaren laced a two-RBI single to put the home team back into the game.
The Rams gained the lead for good with three runs in the top of the sixth and held off the Trojans to secure the 7-4 win. Kayden Andersen smacked a two-RBI double, and Trent Patton drilled an RBI single.
The Trojans had a chance in the bottom of the seventh inning with one on and two out. Collin Harris drilled one up the middle, and Glenwood centerfielder Nolan Clark made a great catch running in to seal the deal.
Glenwood scored seven runs on seven hits. Atlantic plated four runs on seven hits.
The Trojans travel to Council Bluffs Jefferson on Friday. Glenwood hosts Council Bluffs, Jefferson, on Tuesday, July 9.
