(Anita, IA) – CAM softball has pushed the tempo in their first six games of the season. These girls have pushed to a 4-2 record to launch things off in the right direction. The success comes at the plate for the Cougars with a team that is hitting .324 overall and has a slugging percentage of .449. Co-Head Coach Jeni Follmann credits the plate success to the confidence that radiates throughout this team.
So far, CAM is led at the plate by Keeley Kinney, Jenna Platt, and Emma Follmann who are all batting over .450 in over 21 at-bats this season. These three are just a few of the many who worked hard in the offseason with team-hitting days, private instruction, and group hitting on the weekends. These girls are committed to seeing one another succeed so that the team can succeed.
The Cougars feature a mix of young and experienced talent with three eighth graders, two freshmen, three sophomores, and four seniors. Even without the previous varsity experience, the Cougars have seen success in their eighth-grade ace, Ailey Wahlert. She has pitched in 34 innings while giving up 27 hits on 13 earned runs with 43 strikeouts for a 2.68 ERA this season. They also feature eighth-grader Keeley Kinney who has had success at the plate and is getting into the rhythm of the game on the rubber.
CAM had a day off on Wednesday to prepare for the competition against the Lenox Tigers. While the Tigers have struggled in the circle, they’ve been dominant in the box so far this season with a .292 overall team batting average through 11 games. While CAM has played just a few games less, they’re more than ready to take on the Tigers head-first with their stellar plate performance.
Lenox travels to take on the Cougars at CAM High School tomorrow, with the opening pitch at 5:30 p.m. KSOM 96.5 will have the broadcast of the game with the pregame show starting at 5:15 p.m.
