(Harlan, IA) – The Harlan Cyclones came into this softball season hoping for a better season than the year prior. However, the Cyclones still find themselves winless through their first 10 games of the season. Despite Harlan being on the wrong end of the conference standings this season, Head Coach Tarah Devlin Lawler is trying to emphasize the fundamentals and still having fun while playing the game of softball.
Although the record doesn’t show where Harlan wants to be, the future looks bright for the Cyclones with the majority of major stat leaders being freshmen. Freshman Taylor Heese leads the team in batting average as well as home runs, hits, doubles, and runs batted in. In the pitcher’s circle, Harlan has rotated three different pitchers throughout the season with two of them being freshmen and the other being a sophomore.
Coach Devlin Lawler gave credit to her seniors for being good leaders in assisting with the development of her younger players.
Coach Devlin Lawler also realizes they play a tough schedule and with the youth the Cyclones possess, the only thing they can control is how hard they compete.
The Cyclones will take on Kuemper Catholic tonight (June 3) at home starting at 7:00 p.m. and Atlantic tomorrow (June 4) in Atlantic starting at 7:30.
