(Shenandoah) The Glenwood girls scored 175 points to win the team title at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Track Meet on Thursday at Mustang Field and Ray Graves Track. Lewis Central finished second with 110, Atlantic third, 93.33, St. Albert fourth, 72.5, and Harlan rounded out the eleven-team field in fifth with 57.33 points.
One new meet record inked in was Lindsey Sonderman of Harlan in the 3000 meters. The Junior ran 10:21.81, wiping out the old record of 10:33.90. Sonderman says she tried a different strategy in the race that worked well for her.
The Lewis Central girls’ Sprint Medley Relay team started the meet with a first-place finish in 1:52.72. Glenwood followed with the win in the 4×800 Meter Relay in a time of 10:00.54 and followed with a first place showing in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in 1:10.00. Jerzee Knight of Clarinda, with the fifth fastest time in the 100 meters in Class 2A topped the field in the conference meet in 12.45, edging Danika Arnold of Glenwood who ran 12.59. Arnold returned the favor in the 200 meters with the win in 25.79, and Knight finished second in 25.94. Arnold also won the 400 meters in 59.17, and teammates Breckyn Petersen and Megan Hughes picked up 18 additional points for the Rams with a one-two finish in the 400-meter Hurdles in 1:08.81 and 1:09.44.
Lili Denton of St Albert won the 800 meters in 2:21.24, and Claire Pellett of Atlantic finished second.
Pellett ran an impressive anchor leg in the Distance Medley earlier in the meet with a 2:21 split, helping her team to a first-place finish in 4:23.08, along with Jersey Phippen, Nicole Middents, and Callee Pellett. Claire had this to say after the race.
Atlantic sophomore Jaci Reed won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.91.
Glenwood and Atlantic finished one-two in the 4×100 meter relay. The Rams ran 50.46, and Atlantic finished in 51.36. Glenwood won the 4×200 in 1:47.95, and the duo finished first and second in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in 1:10.00 and 1:11.69, respectively. Lewis Central won the 4×400 meter relay in 4:11.01, and Glenwood took first in the 4×800.
In the field events, Lila Wiederstein of Atlantic won the Long Jump with a 16-08.75 effort.
Elsewhere, Ava Underwood of St. Albert won the High Jump, 5.05.00, and Jordyn Matiyow won the Shot Put with a throw of 38-10.50. Abbi Hiller, of Glenwood heaved the discus 116-03.25 for the win.
Afterward, Atlantic Head Coach Matt Mullenix said this about his team’s overall performance.
