(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Budget.
The approval of the budget followed a public hearing in which there were no comments. Lisa Jones, Director of Finance, said the levy rate is $12.51, which has come down a little bit.
The property taxes the district will be getting next year will be around $6,901,000.
The school board then approved a resolution levying a tax for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for the future optional redemption of General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2019, and approving related documents and directing the partial optional redemption of such bonds.
Lisa Jones said this is to make an extra payment on the bond.
In other news, Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen told the board that she had conversations with Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue and Cass County Sheriff Darby McLaren about a possible School Resource Officer position. Dr. Johnsen said right now they are trying to figure out the funding. School Board Member Laura McLean said a SRO would be a good addition. She said it’s great to have a law enforcement officer building relationships with kids and it gives parents and community members an added sense of security.
