(Des Moines, IA)- Chargers wrestling brought six wrestlers with them to Wells Fargo Arena but unfortunately only two have been able to make it past the midway point of the state tournament. Coach Lane Rumelhart looks at it as a learning experience for those that may have had their seasons come to a close.
285 pounder Payton Jacobe ended up on the consolation side of the bracket in the blood round as it is endearingly or distastefully called, depending on your experience, after a third period fall to #2 seeded Cody Fox of East Buchanan. While it looked like Jacobe had Fox on the ropes to start but a well-timed throw sealed it. Not many can go toe to toe with the top ranked wrestlers in the state.
The other Charger wrestler is Tegan Slaybaugh at 120lbs wrestling in the semifinals with a secured spot on the podium with a chance for more after a 3-0 decision victory in the quarterfinals.
